Dr. Zakery, the CEO of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (RAI), visiting the October Electric Manufacturing and Overhaul Plant in St. Petersburg, and the port’s freight loading and unloading facilities.
During his visit, Dr. Zakery emphasized the importance of bilateral cooperation in the manufacturing and maintenance of electric multiple units (EMUs), as well as the value of sharing expertise and leveraging advanced technologies to enhance the performance and efficiency of rail operations.
He stated: “This visit represents a point for expanding technical collaboration and knowledge exchange between Iranian Railways and Russian railway companies. The state-of-the-art technologies is essential for optimizing the performance of our national rail fleet.”
The October Plant, one of the Russia’s oldest rail manufacturing facilities, specializes in the production and refurbishment of electric railcars and is currently engaged in several strategic projects. One of the plant’s projects involves the manufacturing of metro cars for the city of St. Petersburg. Under a government contract, the plant is completing the assembly of 950 metro cars that were partially produced by “Metrowagonmash.”
One of the workshops has an annual production and overhaul capacity of approximately 250 EMU cars capable of manufacturing trams, trolleybuses, and electric buses. It produces trams from single-unit to seven-car. In addition, the plant performs complete in-house maintenance of wheel sets and axles for rolling stock.
