Bilateral Rail Freight between Iran and Uzbekistan to Reach 2 Million Tons

“Iran and Uzbekistan have set target for transporting 2 million tons of freight by 2026″The CEO of Iranian Railways, in a meeting with his Uzbek counterpart, announced.
A bilateral meeting of the expansion of rail transit was held on September 22, between Dr. Zakeri, CEO of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways, and Zufar Narzullaev, Chairman of Uzbekistan Railways, at the central headquarter in Tehran.
“In the first eight months of 2025, a total of 476,000 tons of freight were exchanged between the two countries, expressing hope that the figure would reach one million tons by the end of the current year and two million tons in 2026” according to Dr.Zakeri .
Highlighting Uzbekistan’s strategic situation along the East–West transport corridor, Dr. Zakeri emphasized the necessity of defining joint tariffs to enhance cooperation and increase the cargo exchanged. He announced that export of Iranian products and transit of Uzbek cargo through Iran to free waters are on the rise, adding that currently more than 1,300 loaded wagons are ready to carry into Uzbekistan at Sarakhs rail border.
The CEO of Iranian Railways hops that joint sessions would help boost transit, export and import of goods, as well as wagon exchanges between the two railways and neighbor countries.
Narzullaev thanked Iranian Railways for facilitating the entry of Iranian freight wagons via Turkmenistan into Uzbekistan.
